Dr. Susan Cooksey is the Curator of African Art at the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art, University of Florida. She has curated and co-curated numerous original exhibitions of African, Ancient American and Oceanic art at the Harn, some of which have also been presented at the Currier Museum of Art, Manchester, NH; the Carter Presidential Library and Museum, Atlanta, GA; the Princeton University Art Museum, Princeton, NJ; and the New Orleans Museum of Art, New Orleans, LA.
Most recently, she was the co-curator of Kongo across the Waters, and co-editor of the book by the same title. Currently, she is presenting the exhibition Patterns Past and Present: Arts of Panama at the Harn.
In addition to her curatorial and publishing activities, Dr. Cooksey speaks widely to many audiences about art and museums. Her gallery talk for the Gainesville Latino Film Festival will focus on remarkable ceramic and textile designs from Panama.
