Krystal Serrano grew up in Walla Walla, WA. She always wanted to be a teacher but changed gears in college after a trip abroad, earning BAs in Spanish and Global Studies from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA in 2007. She then worked with the Latina/o community in Seattle for three years as a social worker for those living with HIV/AIDS. Looking for a change of scenery, she came to UF in 2010 to earn her MA in Latin American Studies with a concentration in Development Studies. Upon graduation, she decided to refocus on her first interest and has served as an Upper School Spanish teacher at Oak Hall School in Gainesville for the past three years.
